Jim this is a great article and really shows Luca's depth of knowledge as well as his great respect for a device that I too use.

Having a Bold is an unparalleled experience, and while I do not have an iPhone I do have an iPod touch so have a fair understanding of just what the differences there are.

I think the iPhone is trendy and different, just as the Mac became that for Apple. It came about right after they tested the market with the early ipods and certainly have found a segment where they are competitive.

But Bold is not like every other phone. Maybe it's a state of mind, maybe it's more. I am an avid Blackberry user myself and have been for a while. I loved my curve and would still be using it if I hadn't broken a pin in the connector. Still, using both an ipod touch and a Bold gives me a unique understanding of the vast differences and similarities. I struggle with typing on a touch, but love the ability to surf around and easily navigate menus. I don't like the brute force exit tactics on the touch, but I like the ability to have multiple 'windows' open.

I really prefer the feel of the Bold in my hand to the feel of the touch. Part of it is how thin the touch is. Now, the iPhone is thicker than the touch so that sort of takes that out of play, still I'd say for me there is no other device I have been so attached to as my Blackberry, regardless of model.

Also, Ken and I had an opportunity to test battery life the other day. We discovered that my Bold can hold a phone call that lasts 4 hours. Yes you read that correctly. My phone could have a call on it lasting 4 hours and still have a bit of battery left over. After 3 hours I still had almost half but once you reach the half way mark it declines fairly fast. :) One note, about half way through the call I shut wifi off, largely because we werent sure if it would drain the battery too quickly.

Yikes! Sorry Jim. I've written this all here now, and really just wanted to tell you great article and good for the press on Luca. You guys are 2 of my favorites! :) Anyway, I'm going to leave this here since I took the trouble to write it. Seems a waste to me to remove it!

Take care and all the best.

Hey Jim, thanks for pointing this out! Actually, I did more: I changed all my company's mobile phones to Bolds :-)

There are colleagues, who are not that smart, who told me I gave them the most amazing device in the world which gave a boost to their productivity (and, more important, they now cannot tell me "I didn't see you email..." anymore) :-D
