Most likely in your case, as it was with mine a year ago, the surge came in through the Rogers cable line. I lost a cable modem, an ethernet NIC and a router due to a nearby lightning strike. Best to find a surge device that includes connectors for phone lines and cable lines. I ended up buying one that I attached next to the fuse box at the cable entry point and hooked up the main phone line and the main cable line. Having an APC UPS will stop surges via the AC line.
