		<description>Interesting update, Jim.  I&#039;ll be curious to read more about your thoughts on landlines, the PSTN, etc.  Amusing and I guess very appropriate that Skype was your only connectivity for a bit.  Glad you are getting things back together. </description>

		<description>Having an APC UPS will stop surges via the AC line. Most likely in your case, as it was with mine a year ago, the surge came in through the Rogers cable line. I lost a cable modem, an ethernet NIC and a router due to a nearby lightning strike. Best to find a surge device that includes connectors for phone lines and cable lines. I ended up buying one that I attached next to the fuse box at the cable entry point and hooked up the main phone line and the main cable line. </description>
