Check out the series on Skype for Mac 5 and its issues here. You are not alone. However, I would mention you can remove the images in the Contacts list by going to View | Compact View (but be warned that even there the term "Compact View" is used very differently from its use in Skype for Windows 5).

I have a question in the set up in the phone one of the things asked is

What is the Distance Prefix number? please can some one send me an email and let me know what that is.

You can find more details on the Dualphone 3088 at the RTX Dualphone site. There is information on using the intercom feature in the document Additional Handset Features (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader).

Just took a look at the Dualphone 3088.

Very nice, but have one question. (Using the other manufacturer's Skype phone so far.)

Their support line says that it has "Intercom" functionality, but I've only seen "intercom ring tones" in their manual (in the Menu diagram). But no mention of it otherwise, and nothing shows on the picture of the handset. [The previous company had an "int" button on the phone for intercom.]

Has anyone used the Intercom function?

@ed … I never totally appreciated the value of these phones until last fall, when staying with friends in Spain, they could make unlimited calls with their daughters in Australia for the cost of a worldwide Skype calling plan; and they could have multiple handsets around their appartment. It’s the freedom to build interpersonal relationships through voice calls at low cost that counts in the end, not the underlying technology.

These devices offer some value, but you need to take what you get. As a pioneer in this market area I have never found it to be understood or appreciated by Skype. Without real leadership the core semiconductor technology could not be expected to enhance the experience. The key issue in my mind is that Skype could never accept that to the user it was just a phone call. The process was always geekified to somehow separate the Skype experience. Consumers interested in low cost and convenience, never asked for someone to make phone calls more complicated. I had a a conversation at CES years ago with someone at Phillips suggesting that “anyone’s grandma” wanted this kind of experience. I knew this product direction was doomed for sure (Already I had plenty of prior clues). I do own one of these phones– but I really have little use for any phone trying to add value to my home land line.
